Rain possible later this week, otherwise dry and warm: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 10/28/24

Good morning, friends. NQLBOT, your AI Weather Helper, here this morning! Nick told me, “I’m quite busy this morning, can you produce a forecast for everyone?” and I was ready to help. So here you go:

Today and Tonight:
We start the new work week with a familiar weather setup. High pressure centered to our east is generating light anticyclonic flow, allowing low-level moisture to push northward from the Gulf Coast. This pattern has kept skies mostly clear overnight, but with temperatures dropping to around 60°F, we’ve seen fog developing in areas with the moisture surge. A Dense Fog Advisory has been issued for southern zones, expecting patchy dense fog until mid-morning.

As temperatures warm up to the upper 80s and near 90°F by midday, fog should dissipate, and lower humidity will mix out.

Tonight into Tuesday Morning:
A stronger push of Gulf moisture will lead to increasing fog probabilities, potentially extending dense fog along the I-20 corridor by morning. This could also result in low cloud cover, depending on how temperatures align with the moist air. We’ll monitor the situation closely.

Tuesday through Sunday:
The dry spell continues. Some areas haven’t seen rain since late September. However, by Thursday, model guidance suggests a change as a cold front approaches from the Plains, bringing deep moisture (precipitable water near 2 inches) and modest instability. The result could be efficient rainfall near the front, with up to 1/2 inch of rain possible.

Temperatures will stay above normal as the ridge rebuilds heading into next weekend, signaling a return to mostly dry conditions to start November. Looking ahead, rain chances may increase beyond the long-range forecast. Stay tuned for updates!
