Rainy week ahead followed by a cool down this weekend: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 3/7/22

The Storm Prediction Center has shifted the main threat for severe weather to the north of the area for today. So while showers and storms will be possible, it does look like things should stay below severe limits for the most part.

That said, we are still under a Marginal Risk across parts of eastern Mississippi and southwestern Alabama. That is a “1” on the 1-to-5 scale where “5” is the highest risk for the most significant severe weather. A “1” suggests the chance for one or two storms with some gusty wind and small hail.

Beyond today, it looks like we will hold on to rain in the forecast for Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Rainfall shouldn’t be too crazy, but there may be some brief localized flooding possible by Friday some some of the heavier showers once the ground is good and saturated.

Once we get through the rain, it looks like we have a cooler weekend in store with overnight lows back to around the freezing mark for some folks.

The toughest part about this quick shot of cold is that a lot of the plants are already budding out in many spots, and this may anger some of the flowers. It should be a quick shot of chilly, though, as it looks like we warm things back up as we move into next week. So one or two nights of covering any tender vegetation, and they should be okay.
