Riter’s on the Storm – The Finale (A south Mississippi forecast for Aug 15 – 21)

Hey guys, I’m here with my final forecast of the summer. My time here with the WDAM weather team has come to an end and I truly feel a bittersweet sorrow about leaving. I have made new friends that have taught me so much and challenged me to be the best meteorologist that I can be. I have learned so much about the practical side of weather outside of the things I’m taught about textbook knowledge.

While it seems I was just starting to get comfortable here and finally getting to make some connections around the station, I know that I’ve gained experience that many of my fellow students don’t get the chance to see this early in their education, so I am so grateful to Nick for giving me this opportunity to stumble my way through and figure out how things work. I feel beyond prepared to tackle this new semester with the knowledge I’ve gained.

All three of us interns truly bonded over the course of these past few weeks and I will miss having them around to talk with and collaborate on projects with. Noah and Kendall, I wish you both luck in these next years, you’re both so smart and will be such bright minds for wherever the wonderful world of weather takes you!

Finally, to you readers, thank you for following along as I get a chance to start my passion early and gain a new love for what I do. Knowing that there were people reading my posts gave me a challenge to not just do the forecast but to ensure that it was correct. In saying all of this, I still have one last job to do. . . let’s take a final look at your upcoming week.

Short Term:

Tonight:

  • We’ll continue to see warm temperatures this evening with partly cloudy skies and little wind. Small chance of showers can be seen moving out of the coast along the sea breeze front, which means our southern counties could experience very quick rain showers to move through briefly.

Tomorrow:

Time 7 a.m. 10 a.m. 1 p.m. 4 p.m. 7 p.m.
WX Scattered Clouds Fair Broken Clouds Fair Scattered Clouds
Temperature 76 85 89 89 86
Wind None SE @ 5-10 mph SW @ 5-10 mph SW @ 5-10 mph SW @ 5-10 mph

Expect a high temperature of 92 with a low of 75 and a 30% chance of rain throughout the day. Partly cloudy skies will carry like the past few days where we see puffy, happy, cumulus clouds with some upper level cirrus striations in the sky.

Long Term:

Friday August 17th –

  • Expect a high temperature of 93 with a low of 75 and a 30% chance of rain is expected. Cirrus clouds and lower level cumulus will be expected through the day with periods of clearer skies. If we do see showers, we’ll likely see them in the evening as the pop up around the region.

Saturday August 18th –

  • Expect a high temperature of 90 with a low of 74 and a jump up to a 60% chance of rain in the area. I raised it 10% more than my forecast yesterday due to the changing data and it seems that the south has a burst of moisture moving through the south during the weekend out of the north so keep an eye on that. Unstable CAPE suggests that we could very well have chances of thunderstorms in some areas.

Sunday August 19th –

  • Expect a high temperature of 914 with a low of 75 and a 50% chance of rain through the day. Showers will likely occur in the afternoon and the rest of the day will be fairly cloudy.

Monday August 20th –

  • Expect a high temperature of 93 with a low of 74. The chances for rain lower back to the Mississippi summer average of 30% with partly cloudy skies during the day.

Tuesday August 21st –

  • Expect a high temperature of 92 with a low of 73. The chance of rain again holds at 30% and we can see morning scattered showers. The rest of the day continues to look partly cloudy like the stereotypical days in southern Mississippi usually appear.

Wednesday August 22nd –

  • Expect a high temperature of 93 with a low of 73. Rain chances drop to 20% and we’ll see intermittent showers around the area but nothing very large. With all of the rain we expect to see over the weekend, most of the moisture in the area will have been rained out and we’ll enter the dry spell between rain.

This concludes my final weather forecast as a WDAM Weather Intern. It has truly been my pleasure to bring you the latest in your weekly weather.

“. . . and in case I don’t see ya, good afternoon, good evening, and good night.” – The Truman Show

Have a good one ya’ll!
