Scattered Showers and Thunderstorms Throughout the Weekend with Heat Intensifying Next Week: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 6/23/23

Happy Friday everyone! It is looking to be another rainy weekend ahead with scattered and isolated storms expected throughout areas of today. With this stationary front lingering over the Coastal Southeast, weather will remain relatively unchanged as this front struggles to move. Temperatures across the area will also remain in the 90s with this Southern heat wave still in place.

Today will be mostly clear across the area with some isolated thunderstorms and showers possible but that will directed more towards the Southern end of forecast area along the Gulf Coast. With this general blocking pattern from the southern ridge in place, we won’t expect too much change in the weather over the next few days.

We are looking at most of our rain falling along the East Coast while our local area could also see the possibility of thunderstorms and showers pop up throughout the weekend. The biggest area of concern for us will be in Southern Louisiana where we were are looking at the significant chance of afternoon thunderstorms on Saturday with rain lasting into Sunday. Further inland in Mississippi and Western Alabama, rain and thunderstorm chances will be much lower.

Extended Outlook

Continuing into next week, temperatures will reach into the mid to even upper 90s all throughout most of Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Due to this stubborn ridge over Texas trapping in all this heat, excessive temperatures into the 90s will continue to dominate the area so take extra precaution to stay hydrated, stay cool, and try to avoid being directly in the sun. Especially take care of elderly relatives and friends who are more susceptible to heat-related illness. This ridge will continue to drive much of the same weather we have been seeing the past couple days so strap in for the weekend.
