Showers and warmth traded for cooler temps late this week: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 12/9/24

A fast-moving system will bring widespread rain showers across parts of the area. Rainfall will hang around today and tomorrow with higher humidity, too. While ponding on roadways is possible and some folks will likely end up with standing water in their yard at times, no severe weather or flash flooding is anticipated.

Rainfall totals from most computer model guidance suggest up to 3″ of rain possible today and tomorrow. Honestly, more of a welcomed rain than anything else for the soils.

A stronger system will arrive Tuesday afternoon, driving additional rain and storms before exiting the region by midnight. Temperatures will remain seasonably warm, with highs in the 60s to low 70s and lows in the upper 50s to low 60s today and tomorrow.

By Wednesday, a cold front will sweep through, ushering in cooler air and gusty northerly winds up to 30 mph. Morning lows will drop into the 30s, with wind chills making it feel like the 20s.

Following the front, cooler and drier air will dominate midweek, with highs in the 50s to around 60 and lows dipping into the 30s. By late Friday, another system will approach, bringing another shot for rain over the weekend. Scattered showers will spread across the region Saturday and linger through Sunday, with highs in the 60s to near 70 and lows in the 40s. Still no severe weather anticipated at this time.
