The SPC is still concerned about a rogue severe storm this afternoon, but it does look like most of the action will be north of I-20 again. And, like I said yesterday, while we can’t rule something out, this certainly isn’t a day to be concerned about “bad” weather.
Just keep an eye to the sky, and when thunder roars, head indoors.
The overall pattern isn’t really one that lends itself to severe weather. Instead, this is more of a ‘big rain’ event to the north. A big shot of cold air is going to try to plow south, but it is going to get stonewalled by this pool of warm moist air from the Gulf and Caribbean.
Ahead of the cold, there will be a lot of places this morning that are 5 to 15 degrees above normal across the eastern 2/3rds of the country.
But then, this first load of the cold air is going to move in and change all of that for a lot of places – except down here. Instead, that cold air is going to run into the warmer air and slow down, shoving all of the warm moist air upward. Causing rain. A lot of rain.
Most of that will fall north of our area, but it also means we will stay warmer through the end of the week. That is when Mother Nature decides it wants to celebrate Mardi Gras with a parade of its own. A parade of low pressure systems and cold fronts.
The first float, is a secondary push of cooler air arrives. That cold front will kick through the area and clear the deck for the weekend – sort of.
Because it doesn’t kick out all of the warmth nor humidity.
Then another system arrives on Sunday! That one should finally do the trick. But it doesn’t last long as it looks like another system is set to move through on Wednesday of next week. And then perhaps another one by the following weekend.
After that point, it looks like we may get a break. For a few days.
