Slightly cooler with better chances for rain through the weekend: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 5/30/24

This morning, we’re seeing a few isolated showers and storms are still floating around. As the day progresses, scattered storms are expected to continue due to some short wave energy moving through. While most of these storms won’t be severe, there’s a chance we might see a strong one or two.

Temperatures today will make it into the 80s and low 90s. By evening, most of the storm activity will decrease, but isolated showers and storms may still pop up overnight. It is just one of those kinds of patterns.

The next shot for rain arrives on Friday afternoon / evening. While we’re still not certain about the exact timing, we should have a clearer picture through the day today. The potential for severe weather exists, but it looks like mainly a rain and wind event with the tornado threat remaining low.

Additionally, we expect some storms to produce heavy downpours through the weekend, as high moisture levels (PWAT values up to 2.0 inches) support this. Also, keep an eye out for microbursts that could bring localized damaging wind gusts, hail, and heavy rain through mid-next week.

Rain chances will persist through Thursday as temperatures and moisture increase, bringing more afternoon showers and storms to our area. Stay tuned for updates as we continue to track these weather patterns.
