South Mississippi Forecast 6/14/21: Things heating up locally (Heat Advisory today) and in the Tropics

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for today given the hot temperatures and high humidity. Some of you probably felt this yesterday. Today will be no different temperature-wise.

…HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM THIS MORNING TO 7 PM CDT THIS EVENING…
* WHAT…Heat index values of 105 to 110 degrees expected.
* WHERE…Portions of northeast Louisiana, central, northwest, south central, southeast, southwest and west central Mississippi and southeast Arkansas.
* WHEN…From 10 AM this morning to 7 PM CDT this evening.
* IMPACTS…Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur.

The biggest difference is the chance you get a shower to help cool you down is a bit lower. The atmosphere has been worked-over pretty good the last few days. So we may not see the level of coverage we have the last two days.

In the Tropics

This is one of those storms where it pays to have experience and/or read a ton about past storms. Because if I were trying to Jon Daly this forecast and “Grip and Rip” model data, the end-forecast would be worthless.

There are now two areas of interest. Only one that will impact the Gulf Coast – Invest 92L. And Invest 92L is still spinning in the Bay of Campeche. Model guidance is starting to get a better handle on things. At least for forecast track. Admittedly, there is still a lot of ‘reading between the lines’ as a meteorologist with this one in terms of intensity.

Looking at the European ensembles, the spread is starting to come together.

Of note with this system, it is likely going to be very one-sided with all of the rain on the east side of teh storm. That means if this makes landfall to the west of South Mississippi, the area is going to get dumped on with rain. So pay close attention to the forecast track. You don’t want thi thing pointed toward Louisiana and Texas if you live in Mississippi.

I’ll have a full tropical update out this afternoon / early evening.
