South Mississippi Forecast 6/30/21

As we continue to monitor the tropics, locally the weather feels rather tropical. A lot of shower and thunderstorm activity in the forecast for the coming days with a very humid airmass in place.

This humid airmass has no plans of moving, either. A late-season front is going to try to make a run at the Gulf, but the latest model guidance – and human thinking, too – is that the front isn’t going to make it much farther south than I-20.

Instead, all it will do is increase the amount of ‘umph’ in the atmosphere to develop showers and storms. So we will see a bump in the chance for rain.

Just a quick look into the tropics shows the two invests are still out there.

  1. The weather team on WDAM seem to think that the front will make it all the way down to the coast … slightly into the Gulf, perhaps. In fact, they’re saying rain chances on Sunday may need to be scaled back some. Are they wrong?
