South Mississippi Forecast: 6/9/21

Things are starting to look a bit drier out there. While there is still a chance for rain today… Today is the first day where it shouldn’t be too overwhelming.

Then we start to dry stuff out – for real – into and through the weekend. And as we get into next week we are back to sea breeze and afternoon storms with eyes on the tropics.

Tropical Note

NHC Outlook highlighting a lone area of interest

The NHC continues to monitor an area for development that seems to be a bit farther south than model guidance is suggesting any kind of tropical development may occur. Mos of the 00z data shows nothing of consequence having a chance to develop until a bit closer to Belize and into the Bay of Campeche.

But, as I’ve said before, I will rarely – if ever – argue with the NHC. The meteorologists there are about as good as it gets. So if they are pointing farther south, then we should all keep our eyes down there.

Here is the latest NHC Discussion:

For the North Atlantic…Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico
1. A broad trough of low pressure is expected to develop over the southwestern Caribbean Sea during the next couple of days. Some gradual development will be possible thereafter while the system moves slowly northwestward toward Central America. Regardless of development, this system could produce heavy rainfall across northern Colombia and portions of Central America from Honduras southward later this week and into the weekend. See products from your local meteorological service for more information.

  1. Hoping ‘your’ chances for rain (40% today and 20% Thursday) are right. NWS has 60% today and 40% tomorrow. They have even put a chance for rain on Friday where, before, they had shown no chance. Evidently, they’re not seeing the same drying process you and WDAM are seeing. Like I said, though, I am REALLY hoping you are right! We just don’t need anymore rain and neither do the ones above I-20.
