Things look mostly dry again today. Highs back around 90. I tend to think the best chance for a shower or storm will be a bit later in the afternoon or early evening today. High pressure will do a good job to hold most of the rain away. And the area is still close enough to the lingering front that some of the leftover cooler(ish) air is in place.
High pressure will build across the region through the weekend and into next week. This won’t be a cool Canadian high pressure system, though. Oh no, no, no. This will be a subtropical ridge full of heat and humidity.
That ridge will likely stick around through most of next week, until it sags back to the west and opens the door to the Gulf.
And models indicate that this could be when we open the “Racetrack” to the Gulf. The European Ensemble and American Ensembles show – roughly – the same pattern, with a ridge in the Atlantic sagging a bit farther south than usual.
The above graphic is, full disclosure here, an unlikely scenario. So why show it? While I think the specifics of placement are not likely, I do think it highlights the potential overall setup: Ridge nudging south, guiding waves through the Caribbean and toward the Gulf.
Have you checked your Hurricane Kit lately? Now may be the time – just in case.
