Things aren’t looking quite as rainy during the next 48 hours, which is a nice change for those looking to dry out a bit. A handful of batches of showers and storms are still possible, and the SPC even has part of the area under a MArginal Risk for severe weather, but it looks like widespread rain is looking less likely. Seems like the bulk of the rain may stay to our west with this first go-around.
Beyond that, it looks like the next ‘good’ shot for rain my arrive on Sunday. But that may bring with it a better chance for some severe weather, too.
Day-by-Day Forecast
Today
Morning clouds will break up a bit through the day and some sun will break through by mid-morning and into the afternoon. Highs in the mid to upper 80s. South winds 5 to 10 mph.
Tonight
You may catch a brief shower or storm tonight, but the chance is down around 20-percent. The SPC Marginal Risk for severe weather is for overnight and the main concern is wind. Most spots will just be mostly cloudy overnight. And humid. Lows in the upper 60s. South winds around 5 mph becoming west after midnight.
Friday
A cluster of storms is going to high-tail it toward the Gulf – mainly to the west of the area. That will leave the Pine Belt under mostly-to-fully cloudy skies and a 60-percent chance for showers and storms. With the extra cloud cover and showers nearby, that should hold temperatures down a bit, too. Highs around 80.
Friday Night
Mostly cloudy. Lows around 60.
Saturday
Passing clouds with a 20-percent chance for a quick shower or storm. Highs in the lower 80s. Lows in the lower 60s.
Sunday
Sunday will feature the next best bet for rain with highs in the lower 80s. The chance of rain will be up around 60-percent. There will be the chance for some stronger storms and a few severe storms, too. The main concern is heavy rain, frequent lightning, gusty wind and small hail. A tornado – at this point – can’t be ruled out, but the chance for truly large and destructive tornadoes continues to diminish as we get further in time from April 25th (the general ‘peak’ for tornado season in south Mississippi). Lows in the upper 60s.
Monday
Partly cloudy with a 40-percent chance of showers and thunderstorms as the riff-raff on Sunday exits. Highs in the mid 80s. Lows around 70.
Tuesday
Another system dives through the area on Tuesday bringing another shot for showers and storms. and this may also feature some severe weather. Again, the main concern looks to be heavy rain, frequent lightning, and gusty wind. The chance for rain is currently about 40-percent but this may need to be increased in the coming days. Lows in the upper 60s.
Wednesday
A few lingering showers in the morning, but Wednesday looks a bit drier. Highs around 85. The chance for rain is about 20-percent.
