Southern MS / AL / LA Weather Forecast 10/1/21

Things remain soggy for the next few days. Given how wet things have been across the region during the last, say, three years, I’m betting some of you have grown webbed feet and gills. I even got a text from Karrie, my co-anchor at WDAM, yesterday asking about all this rain!

It is going to stick around through the weekend, but should start to taper off by the time we get into next week. There is some discrepancy between the model guidance about what day is the final day for this round of rain. But, in general, it looks like Tuesday should be the last day.

But if it leaks into Wednesday, don’t be surprised.

The reason I say ‘don’t be surprised’ is that the upper-level pattern shows an area of low pressure dropping into the area on Tuesday and then still here on Wednesday. It lifts out on Thursday, so it is a short trip to the south, but the models want to dry slot parts of the area with the low to the north.

On the above map, notice all the darker greens are – mostly – to the east. This would mean lower rain chances, despite an area of low pressure nearby.

But I’m not ready to completely buy that yet. So I’m going to keep a “courtesy chance” for rain on both Wednesday and Thursday until I can get some better evidence that things will actually be dry.
