Storms return late Thursday / early Friday, otherwise hot and humid: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 5/4/22

There is a chance for some storms Thursday night through Friday afternoon across the area, but for the moment it looks like the threat for severe weather is limited and conditional.

Much like I mentioned a week ago (roughly?) we have transitioned in our “MCS season” where we have to wait for clusters of storms, but not cold fronts, to move our way from Arkansas or Tennessee. Friday morning is no different.

You may be thinking, “Nick that looks a lot like a line of storms along a cold front. Will it be cooler?”

Sadly, it is not. And it will not be cooler by much.

Thsi is also why I think the threat for severe weather will be limited. We will have to wait for other mechanisms in the atmosphere to take over in order to get severe weather. And that is a two-fold problem as a forecaster. For one, the mechanisms are a bit harder to predict specifically. And number two, they often don’t lead to as much severe weather.

Generally speaking, the main concern should end up being some patchy of brief heavy rain, brief localized flash flooding, wind gusts up to 60mph possible, and some small hail. And while a tornado can’t be ruled out, it will take some pretty specific situations to spin one out of the clouds.

Karrie Meter for Friday morning

The Karrie Meter shows values in the 3s and 4s possible across western Mississippi and southeastern Louisiana, but again, nothing overly robust.
