Storms today and tomorrow, drying out next week: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 9/9/22

Looking at the forecast data for today, things aren’t looking quite as wet as they were 24 hours ago. Sure, there is still a nearly 100-percent chance for rain… But there may not be as much rain falling from these storms. And the time between showers and storms may last a bit longer.

I’m having some issues loading up images this morning, but here is a short loop of the HRRR data:

That means if you’re headed to the football games tonight, you’ll still want to bring the umbrella, but you may not have to use it as much – or at all – during the game. The guys will be just as muddy (at the schools with regular grass) on the field, though!

As we move into next week, things will start to really dry out. A front moves through the area and should really kick this humid sub-tropical airmass back into the Gulf of Mexico.

You’ll hear a lot of buzz about “the first fall cold front” but given that we’ve had a handful of cold fronts pass through this summer and the airmass behind this front is only going to drop temperatures by about five degrees, I have a hard time calling this a “Fall Cold Front” as much as a “less summery cold front.”

For example, Sunday, ahead of the front temps will top out in the upper 80s and then behind the front, it will still be about 85 degrees.

As we say, though, it’s not the heat its the humidity. And in this case, we mean it in a good way. The dewpoint will drop from the low 70s to the mid 50s. That will make is feel much better outside.

That will last most of next week, too.

High pressure should hold through at least Friday of next week before is shuffles to the east and opens the door to a return of Gulf of Mexico air.

But hey, we get a few days of lower humidity!
