Checking radar as of this writing, we have a handful of storms moving across the area with training thunderstorms along and just south of the I-20 corridor.
The storms that passed by overnight did bring some folks some rain, but it didn’t qwell our shot for storms through the afternoon and evening.
We continue to see a pretty decent push of moisture from the south. Mixed with decent shear and instability, it means that any thunderstorms that develop could become severe. There is a “Slight Risk” for severe storms across much of the area today. These storms can produce a lot of rain quickly. With recent rainfall, this could lead to flash flooding. We’re expecting 1.5 to 2 inches of rain, but some areas could see 2 to 3 inches quickly. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect through tonight.
Her eis a look at the timeline:
I recognize that the timeline probably isn’t as helpful in this situation given the scattered nature of storms. Instead of waiting for a singular line of storms to kick through, we will have hit and miss storms across the entire area ahead of the front that is set to move through late tonight an through tomorrow morning.
In fact, as it kicks through, more showers and thunderstorms are expected tomorrow morning. There’s a “Marginal” risk for severe weather, especially along the I-59 corridor and points to the southeast. An additional 0.5 to 1 inch of rain is possible, and the Flood Watch remains in effect until Saturday afternoon. Rain should start to end by Saturday afternoon as the front moves east. A few isolated showers might linger but will diminish by evening.
Starting Sunday, we’ll see a drying period as a high-pressure system builds in from the southwest. This will bring warmer temperatures, with highs reaching the lower 90s and lows in the upper 60s to lower 70s. By mid-week, the high-pressure system will move east, allowing for the chance of showers and thunderstorms to return as the next weather front approaches the southeastern US.
