Storms tonight, drier through Friday, more rain this weekend: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 1/18/23

Showers and storms still look possible as we head through the evening. Some storms may be severe, but it continues to look like a pretty conditional threat. That means most folks will see regular rain with thunder, some people will see heavy rain, lightning and gusty wind, and only a few spots will see strong/severe storms.

The SPC is holding the Slight Risk, mainly for areas to the west of the region, today.

The threat for severe weather persists for us, sure, but the significant severe weather is less likely. If a tornado develops – and that a reasonable if – it is most likely going to be an EF-0 or EF-1 and only on the ground briefly.

This is far from a knock-down-drag-out kind of event. Just keep an eye to the sky and have the app nearby to keep you updated and you should make it through. If a warning is issued for your area, just get to that interior room and hang tight while the storm passes by.

The timeline for this is tonight between 9p and tomorrow morning at 6a.

Once the storms pass things should clear out pretty quickly and then we get ready for the next round of rain headed this way for the weekend – which is leaning toward just a chilly rain at this time.
