Strong storms possible this afternoon/evening, then back to hot & humid this weekend: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast

We’ve got high pressure hanging out down to the southeast, and it’s bringing in a bunch of moisture that’s making the area pretty humid. This moisture. trapped under an upper ridge, is creating the opportunity for some strong thunderstorms once that moisture gets some ‘umph’ down at the surface.

And that is exactly what we are looking at this afternoon.

As a little cluster of storms kicks east across the area, we will see some showers and storms develop this afternoon.

Storm will probably be technically “strong” and only a few will be technically “severe” but there will be plenty of heavy rain, lightning, gusty wind and small hail to go around. I don’t think we can rule out a brief tornado, either. There’s a chance for up to 2-3 inches of rain, too, maybe even more in some spots.

Here is a look at the timeline:

Over the weekend and into next week, it’s going to stay pretty humid with scattered rain and storm chances. We might see some more intense storms on Monday and Tuesday as a front moves through. It’s going to get pretty hot too, with highs in the 90s and lots of humidity. So stay cool and hydrated out there!
