Summer Ridge Calling, Please Hold… – Weekly Outlook Forecast for MS/LA/AL 5/19/24

The rain and thunderstorms are now history as the low is dissipating over the southern Atlantic Ocean. Behind it is a large ridge that spans across the eastern seaboard to the southeast. And that means it’ll be dry! And warm, pretty darn warm.

For the next several days, we’ll be under a fairly strong high pressure zone that will keep many of the storms at bay. We’ll have a few systems develop over the southern and middle Rockies that will make their way east, but likely won’t make it further than the norther portion of Mississippi and Arkansas. However, Friday may have some isolated storms that sneak by and move south into areas of central and south Mississippi and northern Louisiana. We’ll also have a chance of some fog for the next few mornings until the high settles in.

The good news is, despite the temperatures rising into the upper 80s to low 90s during the week, the heat index won’t be much further in difference from the actual temperatures. Temperatures will begin to creep into the low and even the mid 90s as we reach the weekend, but areas of Mississippi will see the heat index stay around the same. Areas of northern Louisiana may see the heat index reach the high 90s to around 100.

The weekend should be fairly warm with temperatures reaching the low 90s and lows in the upper 60s to low 70s. We’re getting to the early part of summer, so stay cool and hydrated but enjoy it!
