Typical summertime weather patterns continue, with high temperatures and daily chances for showers and thunderstorms: SW MS Weather Forecast – 7/20/22

Another day, another usual summertime forecast. We remain between an upper-level ridge located over the southwest US and a weak upper level low over the eastern US. The ridge will continue to allow for high temperatures in the upper 90s and low 100s for the remainder of the week and into early next week. Daily chances for showers and thunderstorms will also hang around per usual for this time of year.

Temperatures look to remain tropical, with widespread 90s and low 100s expected across the area. Low level southerly flow will continue to bring rich tropical moisture over the area. This will allow for heat indices near or above 100°F through the next 7 days. Because of these high heat index temperatures, a Heat Advisory remains in effect for today and the potential for further advisories will exist on a day-by-day basis.

This tropical moisture will also allow for the potential for showers and thunderstorms to develop across the forecast period. These storms will be driven by the daily heating and cooling cycle, and location will vary based on existing outflow boundaries and sea-breeze boundaries.

Getting into next week, the system of high pressure will move back east over the southeast US. Temperatures, as a result, may rise a degree or two across the area. Showers and thunderstorms will continue to be a daily chance, but in addition to this, PW values do look to increase to potentially 2 inches or greater, which will allow for heavy rainfall with any strong storms.
