UPDATE: Geomagnetic Storm Watch

Sounds scarier than it is. You may have come across some pretty dire warnings on social media about an impending “SOLAR STORM”

NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center has issued a G1 “Minor Geomagnetic Storm Watch” for areas at 60-degrees latitude and northward.

Notice how dire the warning is from NOAA. Not very.

I read on a few of these “news” sites that people were going to be more susceptible to getting cancer tomorrow. Like if you were to go outside during the day it would be immediate mutation like the Fantastic Four.

Not even close.

You may have some cell phone troubles, GPS issues and other telecommunicaitons problems. That’s about it. If you are far enough north, though, the good news is you may be able to see an aurora.

To put your mind at ease even more, NOAA says that there are 900 days of these per cycle. And a solar cycle lasts about 11 years. Meaning we get something of this magnitude every four or five days.
