Warm, with lower humidity, today and tomorrow before storms try to bubble up again Wednesday: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 5/29/23

I hope everyone takes a few minutes today to reflect on why we celebrate Memorial Day. I hope you have a few minutes today to say ‘thank you’ to those who lost their lives fighting for the freedoms we enjoy every day.

Today, a shortwave ridge is expected to move into the area. That will keep things dry today. Some cloudiness may develop in the afternoon due to perturbed flow from the central-southern Gulf of Mexico – but that is about as bad as the weather will get today.

Efficient mixing of the dry air will lead to dewpoints mixing out into the low to mid-50s, while high temperatures reach near normal in the mid to upper 80s. Northerly surface winds are anticipated due to the position of the surface high on the westward side.

From Tomorrow through early next week, upper troughing will keep the flow predominantly northerly and easterly, resulting in drier conditions with precipitation water values below 1.3 inches. However, around Wednesday and especially Thursday, an upper low-pressure system will bring increased moisture and the potential for rain and storms, particularly east of I-55. I will say that there is some uncertainty regarding the strength and positioning of this low-pressure system, with the GFS model suggesting a more eastward track compared to the Euro model, which indicates a wetter solution.

For now, enjoy how nice the weather is. We don’t get to enjoy temperatures – and the lack of humidity – like this very often this late in the year.
